Fe 15 P1 Football Championship QF vs Valley Rovers Sun Oct 15th

The Fe 15 footballers took on Valley Rovers in the championship quarter final last weekend in Carrigaline. Conditions were tough but both teams gave it 100%. The contest was tight from the get go with both teams trading points. However, Nemo did hit a purple patch in the 2nd quarter thanks to great play by center back Charlie Coughlan and some well taken points by full forward Patrick Campbell. At the short whistle they were 0-07 to 0-05 ahead. The second half was a different affair. Valley got on top in the middle third and they began to eat into the Nemo lead. Soon they had turned it over and went two points ahead with 10 minutes left. But an opportunistic goal by Patrick Campbell after a ball was lobbed into the square put Nemo ahead with minutes remaining. But Valley found a way forward and managed to level the game with a well taken point. Full time score was 1-07 to 0-10. This meant extra time. The first period was very even and the sides trading points again. Then an unfortunate injury to the Nemo center back tilted the tie in Valley’s favour. They outscored Nemo 4 points to one in the second period to win on a final score of 0-16 to 1-10. It was a great effort from both teams and a real championship match that had everything you would expect from championship. We wish Valley all the best in the semifinal. Next up for Nemo is the challenge cup semifinal against Glanmire.

The Nemo girls defended really well but at the other end of the field they were well marshalled. In the end they were beaten on a score of 2-03 to 0-00. Their effort could not be faulted and their mentors were very pleased with the overall performance. We wish Na Piarsaigh well in the final.

Fe 18 P1 Football Championship SF vs Douglas Mon Oct 23rd

The Fe 18 boys continued their championship campaign with a semifinal against Douglas in Carrigaline this week. The game was very even early on and the exchanges were close and fierce as one would expect. At half time Douglas were a point to the good. But Nemo had an excellent third quarter and were soon 4 points ahead. But goals win games and Douglas had some serious talent in their inside line. They scored 3 goals without reply to push themselves into a winning position. Nemo tried hard to get back into the game but the concession of a 6th goal killed any chance they had. In the end they lost by 2 goals on a score line of 2-13 to 6-07. We wish Douglas all the best in the final and with the forwards they have they will take a lot of stopping. Well done to Nemo for a great campaign. They still have a league title to play for. Let’s hope they get some reward for the great year they have had and the great entertainment they have provided.
